Welcome

Court-Approved Floc Settlement Website

If you worked at a coal preparation or water treatment plant in West Virginia or a coal preparation plant in Pennsylvania, you may benefit from a Settlement.

There is a Settlement of a class action lawsuit over the use of a certain type of water treatment chemical called polyacrylamide (often called “flocculent” or “floc”).  Many coal preparation plants in West Virginia and Pennsylvania used the chemical.  Water treatment plants in West Virginia also used it.  The Settlement is with several chemical companies who made or sold the chemical.

The lawsuit claims that the chemical is toxic.  It also claims that workers at these plants who are exposed to the chemical have a higher risk of getting serious diseases.  The chemical companies deny that they did anything wrong and deny the products are toxic.  Both sides agreed to settle to avoid the costs and risks of a trial.

The Settlement includes approximately $6.6 million for free medical examinations for Class Members.

The Class includes anyone who worked at a coal preparation or water treatment plant in West Virginia or a coal preparation plant in Pennsylvania where the chemical was used.
